Mystery Bay is a sleepy coastal hamlet and the sort of place where you feel a million miles away. Its turn off is 9 km south of Narooma, and 24 km north of Cobargo. Eurobodalla National Park lies on either side.
Why it passes muster:
- Camper van friendly
- On the beach in natural bush
- A friend recommended it to me, and it’s not listed on Trip Advisor yet, so it is still a bit of a secret.
Facilities:
- Pit toilets
- Cold showers
- Drinking water
- Campfires
What makes it special?
It is right on the beach with great views to Montague Island. Campsites are scattered amongst the native bush of spotted gums, acacias and banksias. Facilities here are basic but adequate. The natural beauty and serenity is why people come here, not the creature comforts. At Mystery Bay, you can slip into the relaxed lifestyle of a castaway, exploring the beaches and rocky coves, swimming in the turquoise waters, surfing, and fishing, and end your day by the campfire, sipping wine and being awed by the night sky.
To enjoy marine life such as penguins and seals, take a half day tour of nearby Montague Island.
Rates: $10-$14

For campervan hire in Australia I recommend Camperman Australia where you have the option of buying an ex-rental and selling it back when you’re finished.
Happy camping!
