No matter what your interests are, Byron Bay has so many festivals the chances are there will be one that seems custom-made especially for you bringing you in contact with kindred spirits. Below is a list in date order with a link through to each festival’s website.

APRIL

Byron Spirit Festival – World music, yoga, healing, tantra, indigenous culture and dance come together to nourish the body, mind and spirit.

Byron Bay International Fashion Festival – A new wave on the festival scene showing that Byron Bay is more than surfers and hippies, Byron has style.

MAY

Ocean Swim Classic – This 2 km ocean swim from Wategos Beach to Main Beach is open to everyone over 12. It attracts hundreds of participants and spectators and and raises loads of money for charities.

Byron Bay Triathalon – A 40 km cycle, beach run and ocean swim for the very fit.

Bangalow Billy Cart Derby – Preschoolers and celebrities, the wacky and the fast, congregate at the top of the hill on Bangalow’s main street to test their mettle in a race to the bottom.

Mullumbimby to Brunswick Paddle – A fun paddleboard and kayak race through some spectacular scenery for beginners and pros alike. The race finishes with a party at Terrace Park in beautiful Brunswick.

Malibu Classic – A surf competition that began in the late 1970s among local Byron Bay surfers who shared a common love of riding Malibus. It is held in May because this is when Byron Bay has its biggest swells.

JULY

Splendour in the Grass – Indie, hip hop, electronic, and alternate music festival. The name was lifted from a William Wordsworth poem.

AUGUST

Writer’s Festival – Meet your favourite author, improve your writing skills, and network with the literati.

SEPTEMBER

Sample Food Festival (Bangalow) – Brings over 200 local restaurants, farmers and food producers together to celebrate the taste and creative preparation of the region’s food.

OCTOBER

Byron Bay Film Festival – Australia’s largest regional film festival featuring 220+ films over 10 days in Byron Bay.

Byron Bay Surf Festival – More than a surf competition, the 3 day Surf Festival celebrates surf culture in Australia.

Byron Lighthouse Run – Run or walk in aid of charity along Byron Bays most spectacular trail.

Freedom Summit – talks on sustainability, civil rights, food safety, animal rights, and so much more, this is a stimulating place for thinkers.

Byron Latin Fiesta –  3 sultry days of latin music and dance. If you don’t know how to groove with it, take a work shop. Once you learn to salsa, you’ll never be able to stop!

DECEMBER

The Falls Music and Art Festival – Held over 3 days in Yelgun, 30 km from Byron Bay, every New Years Eve this festival hosts contemporary music performances, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other art forms.
