Babinda is a sugar cane town 59 km (45 mins) south of Cairns. Its main attraction is the cool clear waters of Babinda River. Upstream at Babinda Boulders, massive granite boulders line the banks and paved paths take you through the lush tropical forest. Nearby on a bend of the river is Babinda Kayak Hire.
WHERE TO STAY
Just 15 minutes away is Misty Mountains Rainforest Retreat. They offer a range of rainforest accommodation. The luxury Blue Lagoon Villa comes with a pool and a glass-walled party lounge. The Eco-Lodge ($125/night) is a hillside studio with views. The Hideaway is a rainforest bungalow by a stream. The accommodation of Misty Mountain Rainforest Retreat is so private, the management guarantee you won’t see another soul or you get your money back.
FREE CAMPING
There are two campsites at Babinda Boulders, both are suitable for tents, caravans and camper vans, and best of all, they’re free! I’ve written a blog that gives you all the information you need: Free Camping at Babinda Boulders.
